Deliverable 6.1
Title: | Cost/benefit analysis report |
Due date: | 2017-11-30 |
Executive summary:
The aim of this document is to address the economic aspects of the system developed in BProfEM. In turn, the different types of costs and benefits related to a state-of-the-art automation system were worked out. Furthermore, the relevance for future products and services was evaluated.
According to the elaborated benefits, the developed approach has a significant economic advantage compared to state-of-the-art automation systems. However, the most valuable benefits are in a different area than initially expected. While the benefits in terms of energy savings are not significantly higher than in other optimization approaches, the real benefit lies in the configuration and reconfiguration. It turned out that engineering costs can be saved since the application solely depends on the individual building structure and a generic set of rules, while a traditional automation approach requires an individual configuration of the whole application.
The digitalization of buildings makes the BProfEM approach even more valuable. When tools are available that allow to automatically deriving building information in an appropriate way, it is possible to operate and optimize buildings with almost no configuration effort based on a semantically enriched representation.
